Town Center Mall was built by the Homart Development Company and opened in 1980. It had a New York theme with wishing fountains, live vegetation, and a large black station clock.

After that, Town Center went on to acquire a bit of a dark history.

In 2007 Town Center made national headlines for several unexplained murders. In March of 2007, a 52-year-old woman was kidnapped and murdered with no explanation. In December of the same year, a woman and her daughter were kidnapped and found dead in their car in the parking lot, shot in the head.

The stories made national news. Although there was no evidence to suggest the murders were committed by the same criminal, similarities in the two cases led the authorities to believe they were related.

A similar situation occurred at the mall that August, where a woman and her son were found tied in their car but still alive. To this day, all three cases remain unsolved.

In addition to the murders, in 2019 there was a scare in the mall in which shoppers heard sounds like gunfire. Panic ensued, but authorities never found any evidence of gunfire at all. They later discovered that the sound merely came from a janitor in the food court popping a balloon on his trash cart.

Today, however, the Town Center shopping mall thrives undisturbed by past trauma. It is a bustling center for happy shoppers, tourists, and travelers.
