There is no shortage of things to do in Boca Raton, Florida! Sometimes it can even be hard to choose which ones you want to do.

If you are looking for a fun, family-friendly outdoor experience in Boca Raton, check out one of our favorite beaches - Red Reef Park.

Red Reef Park covers 67 acres of Coastline in Southern Florida. Great for swimming, snorkeling, and surf fishing, the park even includes a nature center. It borders the popular Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, to the North. Be sure to check out Gumbo Limbo’s sea turtles while you are in the area!

Plus, the park is within walking distance of plenty of places to eat, shop, and chill.

Snorkeling at Red Reef Park

What all could you do while you are at Red Reef Park?

Well, the park is especially popular for its snorkeling. Red Reef features an elaborate, man-made reef located right off the beach so it is easily accessible for swimmers of all experience levels.

On this reef, you will find sea creatures of all kinds! You might see eels, barracudas, snooks, clownfish, and all sorts of interesting, colorful reef critters. Plus, you will see all the sponges, coral, and sea plants that make up the reef.

With various Ocean Rescue staff members and lifeguards keeping watch, you and your family will be well-protected in case of emergency. Red Reef is the perfect place to experience some safe, fun snorkeling!

However, you can’t rent snorkeling gear at the park, so come prepared with your own gear. There are plenty of places to buy gear within a short distance.

You can also check out the Red Reef Park Executive Golf Course. Featuring a timelessly elegant design, the golf course provides all the amenities you will need. The coastal scenery along the course is breathtaking as well!

Another of Red Reef’s biggest draws is fishing. There are plenty of places to fish comfortably from the beach. There are countless, diverse species of fish in the waters around Red Reef Park, such as barracuda, snooks, marlin, bonefish, blue runners, and more! You will be able to see wildlife clearly through the translucent water.

Besides fishing, golfing, swimming, snorkeling, or just chilling on the beach you can also check out the boardwalk, pavilion, and the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center while you are at Red Reef Park. There are also hiking trails for those who want to see more of the area’s flora and fauna.

Red Reef Park was named for a large natural reef that used to lie right off the shoreline. This original reef was covered over with sand due to beach maintenance on the shore. Eventually, it was replaced with a man made reef.
